Bournemouth University Staff – we are here to help you volunteer

Knowing you can have up to 2 days off to volunteer per year is great, but it probably brings with it many questions such as:

  • Where can I make best use of my skills?
  • How do I know which organisation to help?

This is where we come in! Using our wealth of knowledge and established links and connections in the local community, we are here to match your interests, skills and availability to community needs and to find you a role you will love.

What can I do?

It’s up to you to whether you want to do 2 full days together or spread your time over the full year, whether you want to volunteer on your own, or as part of a group or as an away day/team building day with your colleagues. You could also volunteer in one of the many longer-term roles if you’d like to make that commitment.

With so many options to choose from, you could:

  • Improve the local environment – working alongside other volunteers on litter picks, beach cleans, or conservation projects.
  • Get involved in Event support – help by becoming a marshal at an event like Diverse Abilities, Neon Run or Afro-disiac’s Bournemouth Reggae Weekender 2023?
  • Support others – be a listening ear over the phone, organise an afternoon tea party or become a befriender.
  • Share your skills and expertise – we get requests for everything from web-design, to admin, bookkeeping and marketing!
  • Become a trustee – all charities need a variety of responsible people to help manage and run them and make sure that they meet their legal responsibilities.

The benefits of volunteering

Volunteering provides you with the opportunity to build connections with your local community and give back to society while supporting causes you feel passionate about.

It enables you to use your existing skills to help others, and research has shown that people who volunteer report lower levels of stress, higher self-confidence, and reduced risk of depression.

So why wouldn’t you volunteer!
